This article looks at the astrological signatures for the January 14 eruption of the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’api volcanic eruption.
In his 2022 World Timeline Forecast, Richard Nolle notes that in addition to the SuperMoon which is highly visible, there is a Stealth SuperMoon that is invisible because it’s a New Moon. Both types are equally important in terms of their connection with raising extreme tides in the skies, sea and crust of Earth. He says that strong earthquakes and volcanic eruptions don’t need a SuperMoon trigger but they happen with notable frequency and intensity when there is a SuperMoon.
He notes that a SuperMoon is planetary in scope. With regard to the Stealth SuperMoon on 2 January 2022 at 12 degrees 20 minutes of Capricorn he says there is likely to be a surge of storm, tide and seismic activity extending from December 29 through January 5. The horizon line on the astromap runs through the Pacific Ocean east and then north-east of Australia, very close to the islands of the nation of Tonga north of New Zealand.
The Hunga-Tonga Hunga Ha’api volcano is 65 km northwest[i] of the main island of Tongatapu. The Hunga TongaHungaHa’apai volcano includes small islands and shallow submarine reefs along the caldera rim of a much larger submarine edifice in the western South Pacific Ocean, west of the main inhabited islands in the Kingdom of Tonga. It is one of 12 confirmed submarine volcanoes along the Tofua Arc, a segment of the larger Tonga-Kermadec volcanic arc[ii].
Visible volcanic activity started around 20 December 2021 and continued for the next few days with Surtseyan explosions on 23 December and pulses of steam and gas emissions during 24 to 27 December. Satellite images from 25 December showed that the island had grown 300-600 m on the East side, and ash was falling within a 10 km radius[iii].
Air travel to Tonga was interrupted by eruption plumes multiple times during the second half of December. The altitude of the upper-level steam and gas plumes decreased to 9 km during 27-28 December; a pulse later in the day increased the altitude of the ash cloud from 3 to 3.7 km and the steam and gas cloud to 16 km. Matangi Tonga Online reported powerful lightning bursts overnight on 28-29 December, and volcanic ash was detected 1-7 km above sea level. On 05 January 2022 dark pumice washed up on the beach of Tongatapu island and the size of the volcano grew significantly between 20 December 2021 and 05 January 2022.[iv]
The stage was being set for the big eruption on 14 January 2022 local time as the volcano swelled with the build-up of magma. Volcanic eruptions may seem sudden to us but it is clear from this that they are the culmination of a period of invisible seismic activity in many instances. There is a process that takes place and those processes are the subject of much scientific study.
The chart for Tongatapu on the day of the eruption is as follows –
The first thing to observe is that all of the planets are clustered below the horizon in the chart. Ed Tamplin[i] notes that this seems to be a common pattern in charts for seismic activity although there are exceptions. Note that six planets are clustered in the first quadrant in this chart. Three of them, Venus, the Sun and Pluto are in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. The volcano increased in size building its own earthworks.
The next thing of interest is that the 4th house – the land in mundane astrology – is governed by Pisces with sign ruler Jupiter in the 4th house close to the IC. Neptune ruled by Jupiter in Pisces is also in the 4th house. Pisces is a mutable water sign and indicates the vast and changeable ocean.
Neptune is the destructive god of the sea. Something is brewing in the sea. Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai is a submarine volcano. Neptune is square Mars in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius. The volcano sent a tsunami wave around the world when it exploded.
The Neptune-Mars aspect is extreme and indicative of ‘freak’ changes according to McCormack[ii]. The square is a hard aspect that indicates intensification of static electricity in the atmosphere. Before the eruption lightning filled the skies above the volcano. At one point there were 3674 lightning strikes prior to the eruption but when the underwater eruption began it triggered the largest lightning event ever recorded by GLD360[iii] with over four hundred thousand strikes recorded in just six hours, setting a record for volcanic eruptions [iv].
Jupiter is square the Moon in Gemini in the sixth house of the public health or sickness, civil servants, and public health services. The Moon also denotes the common people. In this chart it also rules the eighth house of death. While there weren’t a large number of deaths directly attributable to the volcano, the nation’s water sources were completely polluted by ash leading other countries to bring aid in the form of vast volumes of water to Tonga. Water supplies are critical to the health of the people. Public officials (the national services) in Tonga had to spring into action to assist those who were injured or afflicted by the tsunami and the ash fall. Public health was seriously threatened by the eruption.
Uranus the planet of sudden shocks was retrograde in the sixth house in Taurus, a fixed earth sign. It squared Mercury and Saturn in the 3rd house of communication. For a while Tonga was cut off from communication with the rest of the world[i] and its internet cable was damaged by the volcano. It took five weeks to restore it[ii].
Destructive Pluto in the nation’s second house within three degrees of its Sun, its vital energy also cannot be ignored. The second house is the national wealth and resources and there is no doubt that Tonga took a major hit in this area from the eruption.
The fixed stars also tell a story. Jupiter was conjunct Sadalmelik in the right shoulder of the Water-Bearer (Aquarius). Manilius spoke of it as having the power “to transform the flow of water so as to spray the very stars” which is rather apt. It causes extreme and sudden destruction. Hyades I or Prima Hyadum was conjunct the Moon. The Hyades is a star cluster that brings tears, sudden events, violence, fierceness, poisoning and contradictions of fortune, among other things. With the Moon in particular they bring eye injuries and danger of blindness. Volcanic ash is harmful to the eyes and reduces visibility.
Mars in the first house is conjunct Ras Alhague. This star creates proneness to infections in general and to epidemic infections. There was a fear that foreigners providing aid would bring COVID-19 to the people of Tonga and extreme measures had to be taken to try and prevent this. Unfortunately, there was a COVID-19 omicron outbreak in Tonga and the country went into lockdown in February 2022[iii].There was a COVID-19 case in a New Zealandtravellerto the country before this in 2021. The 2022 lockdown interfered with cleaning up operation after the tsunami.
Richard Nolle’s dates for the Stealth SuperMoon of 29 December to 05 January are close to the timespan involving the volcanic eruption in Tonga although the big event occurred some ten days after this period. Things were clearly building up to it from 20th December 2021 onwards. Perhaps SuperMoons have a bigger window or perhaps this one was just a role-player in an astrological convergence of many other factors.
