NEPTUNE AND JUPITER SQUARE…OWCH!
Laurie Naughtin www.sublunar.co.za
January this year we had a dream a big dream as Jupiter applied to square Neptune in Pisces.
The natural ruler of Pisces, Jupiter is the ruler of Neptune. Jupiter is feeling very powerful in his own sign Sagittarius. In this placement there is no restrictions, but rather an expansive energy to go after that big dream.
The true nature of Neptune is one of idealism, the great solvent and can be deceptive, especially in the stormy waters of Pisces. Neptune in Pisces brings about energy of uncertainty, can be erosive as well as adept in hiding the truth. As the mythology says, Since Neptune was the god of the sea it was thought that an earthquake occurred when he became angry.
This is why Neptune so loves being in the sign of Pisces, he is invisible and does his deeds unseen, he is the God of the Sirens half-birds, half beautiful maidens, singing enchantresses capable of luring passing sailors to their islands, and, subsequently, to their doom.
Neptune leads us into temptation and in Pisces removes all boundaries making it so easy to just break down all resistance and find freedom in temptation and dreams especially when Jupiter triggered this energy in January as he aspected Neptune.
Now this Month they square again, Jupiter and Neptune, but this time Neptune is Retrograde and showing his true colours. This time the aspect is no longer a dream, but the dream become a nightmare than needs to be managed as life drastically changes and many scavenge for survival.
In this retrograde cycle of Neptune Global warming has certainly affected our weather patterns. We in South Africa have not had a winter worth mentioning. The weather and future of our planet is not clear though we may not have noticed the slow death we and the pollution we create in order to live the easy lives we do, the youth certainly are noticing how we and our forefathers have destroyed their future vision of a perfect planet.
Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg gave a scathing speech at the United Nations climate action summit … ‘you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you! You have stolen our dreams and childhood with your empty words with the inaction on climate change’. Thunberg slammed the members of the U.N. for caring more about money and “fairytales of eternal economic growth” as well as collapsing ecosystems, mass extinctions and people suffering due to climate change. This certainly smacks of Neptune in the sign of Pisces and retrograde, dissolution without boundaries at its worst.
When Neptune was last in Pisces was the 1850’s at this time there was a lot of tension around slavery. There were revolutions, civil wars, and lots of conflict. Drilling of oil wells started. There was an influx of Irish immigrants into America owing to a potato famine in their own country causing poverty. The Chinese entered the land of plenty joining the Irish influx. This caused a lot of unsettlement and gang wars from the local work force as cheaper labour had entered their space causing anger and loss of jobs. There was a draft riot as men were drafted into service to fight for America
Elizabeth Blackwell was the first female to receive a medical degree, Mark Twain publishes his first book and Little Women by Louise May was published as was Leaves of Grass and Uncle Tom’s cabin.
Yes uncertain times, muddled situations, blurred lines and general conflict due to uncertainty. But on the plus side many a great novel or story emerged as well as breakthroughs.
The square aspect between Neptune and Jupiter brings about the need to work hard, put in the effort, cross the t’s and dot the i’s. Jupiter as he was applying and perfecting his square with Neptune has triggered the expansive work we need to do to save our world.
Personally in our own lives, this is the time to recognise the way we are allowing life to pollute us, our thoughts, our actions and our attitude. Once we know what is literally putrefying our lives we can look at a positive honest way to face our truth and not ignore what seems too difficult a road to attempt.
We can remain forever unhappy and lost or we can take on the challenge, hard work, effort and bravery to find a better more positive future…
