The US is preparing for its latest mission to the Moonwith the rocket Artemis, intending toeventually establish a long- term human presence on our satellite. One cannot helpbeing reminded of the historic achievement of 20 July 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission when, for the first time in history, a man set foot on the lunar surface.
The goal now is to conduct more scientific experiments and establish a habitable Moon base with a view toeventually sending a crew to Mars. NASA says it called its new rocket Artemis because she is the mythological Greek goddess of the Moon and twin sister to Apollo. It is interesting how the symbolism of Greek mythology still pervades modern thought.
Mars is in Sagittarius in this chart butlocatedin the first house of his rulership governed by Scorpio and the ruler of the Ascendant. How appropriate for a space rocket driven by fire in a fire sign with its eyes always seeking a journey of adventure and discovery! Sagittarius is firing his burning arrow in a world first and Mars isthe pioneer planet.
Uranus and Jupiter are conjunct in Libra in the eleventh house indicating a massive and exciting achievement for the NASA team andhumankind. The eleventh house is the house of goals, wishes, hopes and dreams as well as groups and society.
The Sun in the 9th house, and conjunct Mercury in Cance,r rules the 10th house of achievement, honours and public recognition. This fame is gained through wisdom and higher learning, represented by the 9th house, so we are talking scientific achievement with the help of clever Mercury.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon, posited in the 11th house also in Libra. It was a jubilant, emotional moment for the entire world. It was also literally a mission to the Moondriven bythe life force (the Sun), and intellect (Mercury) in the house of higher learning.
Mars is also the planet of war and the American Apollo missions were not purely for the sake of making history. At the time, Russia and the US were engaged in a cold war. US President JF Kennedy in 1961 saidto Congress when seeking funding for the space program that“If we are to win the battle that is now going on around the world between freedom and tyranny… it is time for a great new American enterprise.”
How coincidental is it that, as the US is once again involved in a Cold War with Russia, it is once again in the early stages of sending people to the Moon for the first time in more than fifty years?
Dschubba is in the right claw of the constellation Scorpio but was once called by the Arabs Iklil al Akrab meaning the “Crown of the Scorpion”.It brings into focus the Scorpionic influence on Mars at 2 degrees of Sagittarius.
The sign of Scorpio is intense and always digging for information. If anything is going to uncover secrets, it is Scorpio energy. The Moon has fascinated human beings from the very beginning, yet it is still very much a mystery.
In the tradition, the fixed stars Dschubba and Acrab in Scorpioreputedlygive the ability for research, particularly into secret and hidden matters. However, further influence of the sign Scorpio and Mercury and Uranus must also be present to provide further testimony. A Scorpio Ascendant could hardly be more influential and with Uranus emphasized by a conjunction with Jupiter, the testimony of Dschubba ticks all theboxes.
The stars on the head of the Scorpion were known to the Euphrateans (Mesopotamians) as Gis-gan-gu-sur meaning “the Light of the Hero”.Mars was the hero in the lunar landing illuminated by the light of Dschubba and Acrab. The US had proved its technological superiority to Russia.
Yed Prior is the star in the left hand of Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer. He is wrestling the serpent trying to bring it under control. His left handis holding onto its head. It is traditionally associated with Asclepius, the mythical healerfathered by Apollo who could restore the dead to life.Asclepius, through his science, could reverse the course of nature with his powers of life and death and eventually the gods killed him for it. They saw him as too much of threat to the natural order.
There is something of this danger in space missions too. They can and have claimed lives and represent humanity’s desire to escape the natural order of the force of gravity and enter the celestial realm of the deities.
Significantly, Asclepius was an Argonaut, a member of the band of Greek heroes who set sail on the great ship Argo. Their mission was to assist Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece. The Argo was no ordinary ship as it was made with the help of the gods and itscrew were under the protection of Hera.
The parallels of the Argo and the moon rocket Apollo 11 are obvious. Theirs was an exceptional journey in an exceptional craft. The Argo became the constellation Argo Navis when she was lifted to the stars by the gods. She is now a star ship in our eyes.
Procyon is one of the 15 Behenian Fixed Stars and is found in Canis Minor, the constellation of the Lesser Dog. The Behenian Fixed Stars have been of interest for thousands of years and attained particular importance for European mediaeval and Arab astrologers. However even the early Greeks knew it by the name Procyon and it is distinctly mentioned by Aratus and Ptolemy.
It is a very bright binary with a magnitude of 0.34 and its name means ‘before the dog’ because it rises shortly before Sirius, the Dog Star. It is sometimes called ‘the little dog’.
With Mercury, Procyon is beneficial for health and profit or merit. R.H. Allen says that the little dog foretold wealth and renown. With specific reference to Procyon, he states that, like its constellation, it portends wealth, fame and good fortune.
According to Ptolemy its influence is of the nature of Mercury-Mars. Procyon thus emphasises the intelligence of Mercury as well as the Martian nature of the enterprise.
The Apollo 11 mission was indeedfortunate, and the moon landing was seen around the globe. It was and may still be one of the most famous events in recorded history. Hopefully, future missions to the Moon will be as beneficialand renowned.
